Keeping you in the loop…

Staff training/annual leave:

Claire, our Deputy Manager will be attending a Schemas workshop on Tuesday. Schemas is a fancy word for the urges that children have to do… things like climb, throw things and hide in small places. Observing, recognising and understanding schemas means practitioners can encourage positive behaviours; support and extend children’s learning and development; and enhance their self-esteem. If you would like more info, please follow the link www.nature-play.co.uk/blog/schemas-in-childrens-play
Jenna, our nursery manager completes her Safeguarding next week and the newest members of the team attend ‘working together to safeguard children’ next Saturday, maintaining our promise of having 100% of staff being safeguarding trained
Helen, from Surrey County Council will be visiting us on Thursday for another training session on communication and language – we are looking forward to her visit!

Staff Updates:

  • Welcome to Janine Boden, our new Administrative Assistant, who started this week and will support the team on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, plus all day Friday. We are delighted to have Janine on board – this means the reception area continues to be manned all day, every day, and the management team can spend more time in the rooms training and coaching the staff. So please do say hello when you are next in!
  • Welcome to Holly Whitelock, our latest addition to the team! Holly will join the Baby Room reporting into Charlotte, and starts with us on Monday 28th November. Holly has been trained on British Sign Language so will be teaching our practitioners how to use this form of communication with the children across all rooms.
  • We’ll miss you April Wort… April has decided to leave the nursery to explore pastures new. After a luxurious holiday next week and as soon as the Christmas festivities have passed, April is going to explore a change of career. The door is always open, and April may return in the new year as bank staff. Thank you for all your hard work April and we wish you well.
  • Welcome back to Jo Cresswell who joins our Toddler Room team. Jo has specific knowledge of supporting Communication & Language and will be an asset to the progress and development of our 2-3yr olds.

Monkey Mates:

We will advise you if any of these staff updates affects your child’s Monkey Mate – any questions please ask any one of the Management Team

Update on our improvement plan at the nursery:

  • We continue to work at pace through our plans to further enhance the quality of our provision;
  • The implementation of our focused training program is showing positive results:
  • The team have had several training sessions with Rachael Underwood with strong progress over the last few weeks. Particular focus has been in the Toddler Room with specific training on Behaviour Management techniques
  • The practitioners have completed their ‘activity training’ with Tracy from Monkey Puzzle Head Office… great achievements across the team and a real sense of energy over the last few weeks. Excellent interaction with the children supported with creative activities and enhanced learning opportunities
  • Helen Hale from Surrey County Council has conducted ‘peer-on-peer’ observations with the staff and supported the teams’ learning with great adult-child interaction techniques. Helen returns next week to continue her support with the senior practitioners
  • Managerial presence within rooms has increased, driving new room audits and team observations facilitating better coaching and support for the teams with their observations, assessments and planning
  • Current planning documents have been reviewed and a new system is being trialled in Pre-school, scheduled to launch fully across the nursery in January
  • Our managers and senior nursery practitioners completed an excellent Leadership in the EYFS course with new teaching techniques being implemented in their teams this week

Dear Parents & Carers…. our Weekly Monkey News!

Week Commencing: 14th November 2016

Dates for your diaries:

monkey_puzzle_r_pudseysignOn Friday we are fundraising for Children in Need. There will be a touch of sadness surrounding this year’s show, without our longtime host Terry Wogan – but the stars will hope to raise as much money as possible in his honour. We need your help too! We want to raise funds towards the great work that the charity does each year, so we will be holding a cake sale… make sure you treat yourself to something sweet for the weekend. Also, we would like to invite your little ones to wear comfy Pyjamas, slippers etc 🙂 … Donations welcome – please pass these to your child’s room.

Whats happening in your child’s room next week:

Babies:
Babies will be focusing on bears.

We will be going on a bear hunt in the garden on Monday. On Tuesday we will be making warm porridge to enjoy, just like baby bear ;0). On Wednesday we will be having a teddy bears picnic for tea (please bring in your teddy bears to join in the fun!) On Thursday we will be involved in activities that are big and small (just like Goldilocks when she tried each item in the bears house) and Friday we shall be focusing on music and movement with materials and ribbons!

How exciting!!!

Teenies:

going-on-a-bear-huntThis week in Teenies we will continue to read ‘We’re going on a bear hunt.’ We will be encouraging all children to take part in a variety of activities to create our interactive ‘bear hunt’ board. This will include exploring the different phrases that are mentioned in the book, linking them to the different textures. We will also be using the various autumn colours, e.g red, orange and brown. These colours will be incorporated during the many messy activities the children will take part in, such as cornflour play, crazy foam etc.

Toddlers:
stick-manOur Toddles have really enjoyed learning about Stick Man. This week we shall be taking part in matching games for attention and recall, singing songs, creating stick men, developing our counting range with sticks, developing our shape recognition through printing shapes, and learning about how trees grow. We shall also be making some fabulous autumn collages with raw materials.

Preschool:
Preschool have really enjoyed the Supertato story which has led them to begin to make much more healthy choices with vegetables. We shall be planting our own army of evil peas next week to grow! (pls can we have some empty yoghurt pots?) The evil pea is on the loose over the weekend – I wonder what mayhem he will cause? 😉

Next we shall be introducing Julia Donaldson’s Squash and a Squeeze, where we shall be focusing on letters and sounds, fine and gross motor development and spatial awareness. We will be developing animal sound lotto games, filling balloons with different materials to squeeze and squash, developing understanding of texture. We shall also be using descriptive words and describing sounds to support speech and muscle tone.

Letters and Sounds (for children not yet ready for Phonics): Aspect 1, environmental sounds – lotto games
